Ubisoft is turning Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced into a real-world treasure hunt with a $500,000 prize, partnering with French treasure hunt company Unsolved Hunts for a remote puzzle campaign called Gold & Crystal: The Lost Treasure of Edward Kenway.

The official announcement frames the hunt as an Assassin's Creed universe story. Participants are recruited by Abstergo Industries to analyze encrypted documents once owned by Edward Kenway, the pirate at the center of Black Flag, with the trail eventually leading to a buried chest somewhere in the Caribbean.

Access to the hunt is available for pre-order through the Gold & Crystal website, and the full hunt begins November 9, 2026. Ubisoft says the puzzles can be solved remotely from anywhere in the world and do not require prior knowledge of the video game, though the setup leans heavily on Black Flag's pirate setting and Resynced references.

A long hunt for a Caribbean chest

Gold & Crystal is structured around several physical and written puzzle elements, including an encrypted message in a bottle, a map of the Caribbean and a collection of letters and archives containing 15 puzzles. Ubisoft says the hunt is designed to last between two and five years.

The first player to identify the chest's location will be invited to the Caribbean to unearth it. The prize is valued at $500,000 and includes a crystal skull replica inspired by the game plus a chest of gold coins minted with the Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced logo.

The campaign is open in many eligible countries across Europe, North America, Central America, Latin America, Oceania, parts of Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Ubisoft's announcement lists the United States, Canada, the UK, European Union countries, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Singapore, South Africa and several other regions among the eligible territories.

Ubisoft is also running a free preview puzzle before the paid hunt starts. Players can download a high-resolution puzzle file and submit an answer before May 23, after which 10 correct entrants will be randomly selected to receive free digital access to the treasure hunt.

Black Flag Resynced has already been positioned as a broader refresh of Ubisoft's pirate adventure, with previous details covering manual jump and stealth changes, HUD customization and a major accessibility upgrade. Gold & Crystal is a different kind of tie-in, less about changing the game itself and more about extending its treasure-map fantasy into a multi-year puzzle contest.
