Nintendo has outlined Yoshi and the Mysterious Book's story setup, creature-study loop and several of Yoshi's core moves for Switch 2.
The official post frames the adventure around Mr. E, a talking book that crashes onto Yoshi's Island and loses his memory. Yoshi dives into the book's pages to recover knowledge about the creatures inside, turning each chapter into a mix of observation, experimentation and light puzzle-solving.
That setup fits the gentler tone Nintendo has shown for the game so far. In an earlier trailer-focused look at Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, the Switch 2 exclusive was already pitched around exploration and playful interactions instead of speed or combat.
The new breakdown explains that Yoshi can learn about creatures by approaching them, watching how they behave or using familiar moves. Gobbling creatures can reveal information and sometimes turn them into eggs, while egg throws, Flutter Jumps, Ground Pounds and tail flicks all feed into the discovery loop.
Nintendo also describes a sprint move and an observe action, with Yoshi able to duck behind foliage and stay out of sight while studying creature behavior. Stages ask players to test different interactions until more information is added to Mr. E's pages.
The game's Nintendo Store page lists Yoshi and the Mysterious Book as a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive priced at $59.99. It also names Bowser Jr. and Kamek among the characters, with the pair searching for something inside Mr. E.
Nintendo has been filling out the early Switch 2 calendar, including its May 2026 Switch 2 lineup. This Yoshi update focuses on play flow, with creature discovery replacing the usual checklist of enemies and obstacles.
