Nintendo has given Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave a fuller gameplay and story breakdown ahead of launch, using a dedicated Direct to explain how its four hero routes, tournament structure and time-travel setup fit together. The strategy RPG is still set for September 17, 2026 as a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive.

The new details move past the date confirmation we covered when Fortune's Weave was placed on Switch 2's September calendar. In Nintendo's latest overview, the game begins in the Dagdan Empire, where fighters gather in Dagsion for the Heroic Games and a chance to have one wish granted.

Five years later, the Empire is facing destruction after the demon god Balor returns. Sothis sends the player's soul back through the fate of four missing Heroes, letting players follow Cai, Dietrich, Theodora or Leda. Nintendo says choosing a Hero changes how the narrative unfolds, while progress is saved separately for each route, so players can move between paths instead of locking themselves into a single run.

Nintendo's store page shows Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave keeping the series' grid-based battles on Switch 2.

The Heroic Games also give Fortune's Weave a clearer loop between battles. Players can spend time in Dagsion training at the Arena, buying or improving equipment at the Shopping Arcade, volunteering at temples for battle blessings, taking certification exams for new classes and recruiting fighters through gifts or shared meals. Leaving the city opens a world map with towns, skirmishes and dungeons, but time passes as players move, so preparation is part of the strategy.

Battles still use Fire Emblem's familiar turn-based positioning, with blue movement ranges, red attack ranges and enemy turns following player actions. The Direct also highlighted weapon matchups, terrain advantages, adjacent ally buffs, combat arts that consume weapon durability and Blaze Arts that spend a Hero's health for stronger effects. Fortuna's Blessing returns the rewind-style safety net, allowing players to roll battle events back after a move goes wrong or a favored unit is defeated.

Nintendo also outlined several class tiers, starting with beginner roles such as gladiators, diviners and ornius riders. Specialty and advanced classes include armored knights, wing soldiers, charioteers, cataphracts, guardians and elephant riders, giving the Switch 2 entry a broad tactical spread before players factor in each Hero's unique abilities.

Preorders are live on the Nintendo eShop. The game's Nintendo Store page lists the standard edition at $69.99, while the Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave Dagdan Collection adds a steel game case, character art cards, a map of Dagda and an artbook. Nintendo Music is also adding selected Fortune's Weave tracks, including the main theme, with a Nintendo Today! app theme following tomorrow and an Ask the Developer article planned for September 15.
