Call of Duty: Warzone is reaching the end of the line on PS4 and Xbox One. Activision says new downloads for the last-gen console versions will stop on June 4, and the battle royale will no longer be playable on those systems when Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Season 1 begins later this year.

The cutoff gives current PS4 and Xbox One players a short runway rather than an instant shutdown. According to Activision's Warzone platform update, anyone who already owns the game in their console library can keep installing and playing it until the end of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Season 06. Warzone then exits those platforms with the start of Modern Warfare 4 Season 1.

Warzone's last-gen shutdown starts in June

The first changes arrive before the game itself goes offline. On June 4, Warzone will be removed from PS4 and Xbox One digital storefronts, meaning new players on those consoles will no longer be able to download it. Activision also says content purchased with local currency, including COD Points bundles and BlackCell, will be removed from the Warzone in-game store and related menus on those platforms.

On June 25, the full Warzone in-game store will be removed from PS4 and Xbox One. Battle Pass progression will continue in the meantime, and players who do not own the pass can still earn free tiers, including new weapons, through the remaining Black Ops 7 seasons.

The final step comes with Modern Warfare 4 Season 1. Activision has not announced the exact Season 1 date, but Modern Warfare 4 launches on October 23, so the full Warzone shutdown on PS4 and Xbox One is expected after that launch window.

Progress carries forward, but COD Points have limits

Players moving to PS5, Xbox Series X|S or PC will keep Warzone progression and content purchased with COD Points as long as they use the same linked Activision account. Activision says some content, including COD Points, remains tied to platform accounts, so unspent COD Points from an unsupported console will only be available on the current-generation console within the same console family.

That means a PS4 player can carry applicable COD Points forward to PS5, while an Xbox One player can do the same on Xbox Series X|S. Most local-currency purchases are also tied to platform accounts and should remain usable on the current-generation console in the same family when using the same account. Activision says other Call of Duty games released on PS4 and Xbox One are not affected by the Warzone change.

The move follows Activision's wider break from last-gen hardware. The company recently confirmed that the next Call of Duty is skipping PS4, and the official Modern Warfare 4 announcement now lists PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2 as launch platforms. Warzone's own transition is tied directly to that new cycle, with Modern Warfare 4 content and seasonal progression set to integrate into the battle royale beginning in Season 1.
