Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is official, and Infinity Ward is sending the rebooted Modern Warfare story into a large-scale conflict around Korea. The next Call of Duty launches October 23, 2026 for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Steam, Battle.net, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2.

The reveal gives this year's Call of Duty a firm date, a current-gen platform list and a campaign premise after Infinity Ward's earlier tease pointed toward another Modern Warfare entry. It also confirms that the series is coming to Nintendo's new hardware at launch, with Switch 2 pre-order details due later this summer.

According to the official announcement, Modern Warfare 4 follows the events of Modern Warfare III (2023), with Captain Price still hunting Vladimir Makarov after the previous game's ending. The new campaign moves the battle lines to Korea, Paris, New York City and other global locations.

Modern Warfare heads to Korea

The campaign centers on a fictional conflict along the border of North and South Korea. Narrative director Jeff Negus and associate design director Alex Norris said the team is using the setting to bring in a larger cast, including Korean soldiers Park, Jay, Cho and Moon plus American Marines West and Dunn.

Negus said the trailer introduces "one of the biggest casts we've assembled for this game," with several new characters tied to a South Korea-based marine squad. Norris described mission design that can combine infantry, armor and air support as players move through larger battles.

Infinity Ward is also framing the campaign as a return to the series' big cinematic set pieces. The developers pointed to beach assaults, city battles and a Paris car chase as examples of the kind of mission variety Modern Warfare 4 is aiming for.

The Korea setting is being treated as more than backdrop, according to the developers. Negus said the team worked with actors, dialect coaches and internal feedback to keep Korean dialogue and cultural details grounded. Norris said staff with Korean backgrounds contributed to an internal culture channel that helped check details as specific as signage and convenience store layouts.

Price returns after Modern Warfare III

Modern Warfare 4 continues Captain Price's story after Modern Warfare III left him in a darker place. Negus said the team is now dealing with "a different version of Price" after choices made across the last three games.

That makes the new campaign a direct follow-up rather than a clean reset. It is also one of the clearest platform breaks for the series in years, since Activision has already said the next Call of Duty is skipping PS4. Modern Warfare 4's confirmed list keeps the game on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, while adding Switch 2 to the launch plan.

Pre-orders are open now on the Xbox Store, Steam and other digital retailers. The game is also an Xbox Play Anywhere title, meaning eligible digital purchases support both Xbox console and Xbox on PC through Microsoft's cross-buy system.
