Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4's first real multiplayer footage is here, and Infinity Ward is putting movement near the center of the pitch. The latest From the Ward video, titled Philosophy of Multiplayer, shows players sprinting, sliding, climbing, hanging from ledges and chaining traversal moves in a way that looks noticeably freer than many fans associate with the Modern Warfare branch.

Infinity Ward's From the Ward video gives an early look at Modern Warfare 4 multiplayer footage and movement design.

The official Modern Warfare 4 announcement already described multiplayer as grounded combat shaped by fluid movement, player choice and greater control. This video is the first clearer look at what that means in motion, with clips focused on momentum carrying from sprinting into slides, climbing and other environmental actions.

According to Eurogamer, one sequence shows a character sprinting, sliding over a car and ending in a slide that lands them on their back. The video also highlights transitions into climbing pipes, hanging from ledges, jumping toward ledges and mantling over them, suggesting Infinity Ward wants traversal to feel less segmented during fights.

Infinity Ward is leaning into player control

That focus is likely to be one of Modern Warfare 4's most argued-over multiplayer choices before launch. Modern Warfare 2019 became a reference point for players who liked heavier, grounded gunfights with enough movement expression to reward mastery, while Modern Warfare 2 drew criticism from some fans who felt its movement was too restrictive.

Infinity Ward co-studio head Mark Grigsby addresses that tension in the new video, saying the team wanted to avoid boxing players in. The line that frames the episode is direct:

"If the player wants to do something, they should be able to do it".

That does not make Modern Warfare 4 a wall-running shooter. The broader official reveal still frames the game as grounded and current-gen focused, with no PS4 or Xbox One release. But the early multiplayer message is clear enough: this year's Modern Warfare is not retreating into slow, rigid movement just because the subseries has a military tone.

The movement footage also sits alongside other confirmed multiplayer systems. Activision says Modern Warfare 4 will launch with 12 core 6v6 maps, dedicated Gunfight maps and multiple Big War maps. The official reveal also lists a reworked weapon stack with no bloom, updated recoil and handling, improved enemy visibility and a redesigned Create-a-Class setup.

Modern Warfare 4 has already been through a busy reveal window, including confirmation that the game launches on October 23 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. Infinity Ward has also started answering smaller multiplayer questions, including making riot shields destructible and saying cosmetics will stay grounded.

Players will not have to judge the new movement system from edited footage alone. Modern Warfare 4 is due to hold a summer beta, which should give the community its first hands-on test of whether Infinity Ward's faster traversal still feels like Modern Warfare once real matches begin.
