Ubisoft has answered more Skull and Bones Year 3 questions after its latest developer stream, giving players a clearer look at what is coming after Shattered Seas and where the pirate live-service game is heading next.

In a developer AMA recap, the Skull and Bones team said Year 3 will keep pushing naval combat, power progression and activity variety. That means new enemies and world activities in Year 3 Season 2, more large ships across the next few seasons, deeper combat-system work and a continued focus on PvE before PvP gets major attention again.

The AMA follows the launch of Skull and Bones Shattered Seas, which started Year 3 with the Seasonal Mastery Tree, two extra World Tiers, the Galleon and new upgrade systems. Ubisoft had already outlined the broader Sails of Power roadmap, but the AMA gives more direct answers to community concerns about content, map expansion, storage, social features and PvP.

Year 3 is still about rebuilding the core loop

One recurring theme in the AMA is that Ubisoft sees Year 3 as foundation work. The team said new stories and bosses are planned, with Year 3 Season 2 expected to bring new enemies that affect gameplay mechanics and new world activities that expand the story.

The studio also acknowledged that some players want map expansions, clans or guilds, more social tools and fresh activities instead of another progression layer. Senior community developer Alexis said foundational content is where the team is moving, but that not everything can be added at once.

"Map Expansion would require a significant amount of work if we want to do it right, which is why it is not a priority at the moment, but not off the table entirely for the future."

Storage is described as an area Ubisoft is "actively and continuously working on," while core social features are called a top priority. Ubisoft said a few social additions will arrive during the year, with more being explored for Year 4, including possible clans, guilds and group PvP content.

Combat 2.0 and PvP are linked

The clearest long-term combat point is Combat 2.0, Ubisoft's name for deeper naval-combat changes planned later in the year. The team said it is reviewing status effects, damage calculation and ship rank, with one example being that status effects currently cannot stack once applied to enemies.

Build variety is another target. Ubisoft said Seasonal Mastery is meant to introduce unique perks each season, push underused ships and support more unusual playstyles, even if some meta builds still rise to the top.

PvP players will probably have to wait. Ubisoft said it is prioritizing PvE because the current PvP audience is small, but the team is not giving up on Death Tides or PvP overall. The AMA also says Combat 2.0 is a high priority partly because it affects all content and could put PvP in a better position later.

The team is also looking at making aggro clearer and giving tank ships more reliable tools for group content. Existing ships may be reviewed as the naval combat changes move forward, including the frigate.

More large ships are planned

Ubisoft named several large ships planned for the next few seasons: Galleon, Flyut, War Junk, Dungiyah and Granado. The studio said it still wants to add Small and Medium ships when they make sense, but Year 3 is clearly leaning into bigger hulls and endgame combat roles.

Other smaller details came up as well. The option to remove cranes from some ships is planned for Year 3 Season 2, pennants are still being discussed and customizable ship-name plates are being considered without a promise.

Seasonal Mastery will reset each season, though Ubisoft said it will be a soft reset with some points carried over. Mythic Ascension materials, including Nightshade Pearl, will come from several sources such as Time-Limited Events, Domains, Mythic Bosses and the Kraken, while mod transfers will destroy the weapon the mod is taken from.

The message to Skull and Bones players is that Year 3 is not only a content drop. Ubisoft is trying to reshape how the game handles progression, challenge and combat before committing to larger additions like map expansion or heavier PvP systems.
