Ubisoft is changing the competitive core of Rainbow Six Siege with Ranked 3.0, a June 2 overhaul that removes hidden MMR from Ranked matchmaking and makes a player's visible rank the main measure of skill.
The update, which arrives with Operation System Override, also adds placement matches, a Competitive Rewards track, tighter squad restrictions and changes to the Champion rank. In Ubisoft's breakdown, the studio says the goal is a more transparent Ranked system where progression is easier to understand after each match.
Under Ranked 3.0, players will complete five Placement Matches at the start of each season before receiving their starting rank. Those matches will grant increased Rank Point gains, intended to help players return to the level they reached in the previous season more quickly. Squad restrictions will not apply during Placement Matches, so players can queue with friends regardless of rank during that opening stretch.
The biggest competitive change is the removal of hidden MMR from Ranked. Matchmaking will use Rank Points instead, with post-match reports showing RP changes more clearly. Ubisoft says RP gains and losses will depend on the match result and the relative balance between teams. Beating stronger opponents can award more RP, while losing to lower-ranked teams can carry a larger penalty.
Rewards and squad limits change in Ranked 3.0
Ranked matches will also feed into a new Competitive Rewards track. Players earn two points for a win and one point for a loss, with rewards unlocking every 10 points up to 150 points. The track includes Competitive Coins, Alpha Packs, a card background, a charm and headgear. Rank-based rewards will still be tied to the highest rank a player reaches during the season, even if they later derank.
Squad Restrictions are being added to control wider rank gaps in normal Ranked queues. Copper through Emerald players can queue with teammates within three full ranks of their own rank. Diamond and Champion players are limited to teammates within two full ranks.
Ubisoft is also adjusting the Map Ban phase. Ranked 3.0 normally presents five maps, with three from the Pro Pool and two from the Seasonal Pool. When a Showcased Pool is active, as it will be in Season 2 with Calypso Casino, the ban phase will include one Showcased Map, two Pro Pool maps and two Seasonal Pool maps. The usual format returns at mid-season.
Champion rank is being split into five divisions, matching the rest of the Ranked ladder. The featured leaderboard will sit at Champion I, before the planned Legend Division replaces it in Season 3. Ubisoft says Legend Division eligibility will require players to reach Platinum or higher in Season 2 and Champion in Season 3, use the R6ShieldGuard Secure Platform and enable app-based two-factor authentication.
