Elden Ring finally has a firm date for its Nintendo Switch 2 debut. Bandai Namco says Elden Ring Tarnished Edition will launch for Nintendo's new console on August 28, bringing FromSoftware's open-world action RPG and its Shadow of the Erdtree expansion to the platform in one package.
The Switch 2 release is not just the base game with the expansion bundled in. Bandai Namco says Tarnished Edition also includes two new starting classes, new character armor and customization options for Torrent, the spectral steed players ride through the Lands Between. The same new content will be sold separately for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam.
Nintendo's US store page lists Elden Ring Tarnished Edition at $79.99 for Switch 2. Bandai Namco has not listed the separate add-on price for existing Elden Ring owners in the official announcement.
Switch 2 gets Elden Ring's complete journey
Elden Ring is one of the biggest third-party names on the Switch 2 calendar, especially for players who skipped the game on PlayStation, Xbox or PC. Bandai Namco says the original game has sold 30 million units worldwide and earned more than 400 Game of the Year nominations, while Shadow of the Erdtree expanded the story with the Realm of Shadow, new bosses, gear, abilities, weapons and armor.
That makes the August launch more than a late port. Switch 2 owners are getting the full Elden Ring campaign, its major expansion and the extra Tarnished Edition content at once. It also gives FromSoftware a second major Switch 2 story alongside The Duskbloods, which remains on the platform's 2026 slate.
The technical question is still the one players will watch closely. Elden Ring is dense, fast and harsh when performance slips, so the Switch 2 version will need to hold up under boss fights, open-world traversal and Shadow of the Erdtree's heavier encounters. The date is now locked. The next test is how well the Lands Between travel.
