Tales of Eternia Remastered is bringing one of the older Tales action RPGs back on October 16, 2026, with Bandai Namco confirming a wide release across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam.

The announcement matters because Eternia has been awkwardly placed in the series' western history. Bandai Namco's US announcement describes it as one of the earliest Tales entries, first released in 2001 as Tales of Destiny II. This remaster gives the game its own name again for a modern multiplatform launch, rather than leaving it tied to an old North American title that made it sound like a direct sequel to a different Tales game.

PlayStation's announcement trailer shows Tales of Eternia Remastered ahead of its October 16 launch.

Tales of Eternia Remastered follows Reid Hershel, Farah Oersted, Keele and Meredy across Inferia and Celestia, two worlds facing a catastrophic collision called the Grand Fall. The setup is classic Tales material: a party-driven JRPG with a young cast, elemental power at the center of the plot and real-time battles that play out on a 2D plane.

The battle system is the Aggressive Linear Motion Battle System, with Arte chaining and party coordination in fast 2D fights. That detail is important for anyone coming from newer Tales games, since Eternia sits closer to the series' earlier side-view action roots than the larger 3D arenas seen in recent entries such as Tales of Arise.

Bandai Namco is not pitching this as a remake. The official site describes it as a remastered edition with updated visuals and several convenience features layered over the original RPG. Players will be able to switch between remastered and original graphics, toggle sound effect modes and use additions such as destination markers, enemy encounter controls, Battle Retry, Quick Recovery and high-speed auto-battle.

The publisher also lists a Boost feature for adjusting experience gained and encounter frequency. Extreme difficulty will be available from the start, while an Unknown difficulty unlocks after completing the game. Those options should help the remaster serve two different audiences: returning players who remember the original pacing, and newcomers who may be less patient with random encounters and older JRPG travel friction.

The platform list is unusually broad for a remaster of a 2000-era RPG. PlayStation's trailer is aimed at PS5 and PS4 owners, but Bandai Namco's announcement confirms Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, Switch and Steam as part of the same worldwide launch. The PlayStation Store page lists the game for October 16 at 04:00 UTC, with offline single-player support and Remote Play.

The remaining question is price. Bandai Namco has confirmed the date, platforms and core remaster features, but it has not listed pricing in the announcement. Tales of Eternia Remastered is being developed by TOSE Co., Ltd., according to the official game page, and launches worldwide on October 16.
