Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection can finally pull its online player base together across platforms. Digital Eclipse has released a free update for the retro fighting game collection that adds Krossplay, 2-on-2 online matches, variable refresh rate support and a handful of fixes.
The update is available now, according to Digital Eclipse's announcement. Krossplay is the Mortal Kombat branding for cross-platform online play, and it lets players on PlayStation, Xbox, Switch and PC meet in the same Quick Play sessions or Online Arcade rooms. The feature is disabled by default, so players need to turn it on through Online Options before they can fight opponents on other hardware.
Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection launched on October 30, 2025, as a Digital Eclipse compilation of 23 Mortal Kombat releases from the arcade, console and handheld eras. The package already included modern touches such as online multiplayer and rollback netcode, but cross-platform support is a bigger community change because it keeps older MK games from being split into smaller platform pools.
Krossplay Arrives With One Switch Caveat
The new feature covers the collection's platforms broadly, but there is one notable exception. Mortal Kombat Trilogy does not support Krossplay matches on original Nintendo Switch consoles due to technical limitations, according to the patch notes. Players on supported platforms can also select their level before an online match.
The same update brings 2-on-2 online play to four titles in the package: Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (Arcade), Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (SNES), Mortal Kombat Trilogy (PS1) and Mortal Kombat 4 (Arcade). Digital Eclipse says those modes are marked with the words "2 on 2" when they appear in online rooms.
VRR support is another important addition for players on compatible displays. The option is now supported on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One X, Xbox One S, Nintendo Switch 2 in handheld mode and PC. Digital Eclipse says VRR can sync a display to the original arcade games' non-standard frame rates, which were usually around 53 Hz, producing a more accurate presentation that may also improve input latency.
The patch also fixes an issue with the minimum connection strength option for rooms, stops Kombat Kard replays from being erased accidentally when unfavorited, updates localization in various languages and adds other small bug fixes.
Digital Eclipse described Krossplay, 2-on-2 online and VRR as the final three major features it currently plans to add to Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection. The studio said it will continue looking for bug fixes and improvements, but this update appears to be the collection's last major feature drop rather than the start of another big expansion cycle.
