Pokémon Winds and Waves may have a much more interesting starter trio than the usual Grass, Fire and Water split if the latest Gen 10 rumor is accurate. A post from Pokémon leaker Light88 on X claims the final evolutions for Browt, Pombon and Gecqua will each add a secondary type, giving the three partners a wider competitive identity before Nintendo or The Pokémon Company have shown their evolved forms.
The claim should be treated as unconfirmed. The official Pokémon Winds and Waves site currently lists only the base starter types: Browt is Grass, Pombon is Fire and Gecqua is Water. The new rumor says Browt eventually becomes Grass/Ground, Pombon becomes Fire/Fairy and Gecqua becomes Water/Psychic.
The rumored typings would give each starter a sharper role
The Fire/Fairy claim is the one most likely to grab attention. Pombon was revealed as the Puppy Pokémon, and the same leak says its evolution line supposedly stays quadrupedal and ends with a dog or lion-like final form. That detail lands directly in a long-running Pokémon fan anxiety: cute Fire starters have a habit of becoming more humanoid as they evolve, and Pombon has already drawn plenty of interest because players want it to keep its animal shape.
Browt's rumored Grass/Ground typing would push the Bean Chick Pokémon away from the first impression some fans had after the reveal, where its bird-like design naturally invited comparisons to Rowlet. Gecqua's rumored Water/Psychic typing is less flashy on paper, but it does fit The Pokémon Company's official description of the Water Gecko Pokémon as intelligent and shrewd.
That mix also gives the trio a cleaner mechanical spread than a simple mono-type starter lineup. None of it confirms moves, abilities, stats or final designs, but secondary typing is often one of the first things players use to judge which partner they want for a first playthrough.
Pokémon has only confirmed the starters, setting and 2027 release
Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves were announced for Nintendo Switch 2 as the next mainline Pokémon RPGs, with a simultaneous worldwide release planned for 2027. The official site describes the games as open-world adventures set across windswept islands and a vast ocean, with different player outfits depending on the version.
The Pokémon Company has also confirmed the three first partner Pokémon. Browt is the Bean Chick Pokémon with Overgrow, Pombon is the Puppy Pokémon with Blaze and Gecqua is the Water Gecko Pokémon with Torrent. Their evolutions remain under wraps.
That leaves plenty of room for rumors to spread, especially after earlier Pokémon Winds and Waves leaks helped set expectations around the region and other unrevealed details. Gamers Now has already covered a separate Pokémon Winds and Waves rumor about Seed Pokémon and a new Champion, as well as a Legendary Pokémon rumor involving Garuda and Naga inspirations. The new starter-type claim belongs in that same bucket: plausible enough for fans to discuss, but not something to treat as final until Game Freak shows the evolutions itself.
The next official trailer will decide how much of this survives. If the leak is right, Pombon could become one of the most talked-about Fire starters in years. If it is wrong, the rumor still shows what fans are hoping Gen 10 gets right before Pokémon Winds and Waves arrives in 2027.
