A new Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves rumor claims the Gen 10 games will give their box Legendary Pokémon special forms tied to the next mainline battle mechanic.
The claim comes from Pokémon leaker Light on X, who described the information as a potential leak and warned that it should be treated as a rumor until it is officially confirmed. According to the post, the box Legendaries are expected to play a larger role in both story and gameplay than recent mainline mascots, with their new forms reportedly connected directly to the games' central gimmick.
If accurate, that would give the new mascots a different role from Pokémon Scarlet and Violet's Koraidon and Miraidon. Those two were central to traversal and story, while the games' Terastal phenomenon operated separately from them. The rumor instead suggests Pokémon Winds and Waves could make its Legendaries part of the same mechanical identity that shapes battles.
The rumor goes beyond the two mascots
Light's post also claims a considerable number of other Pokémon will receive forms linked to the same mechanic. Earlier development plans reportedly placed all of those forms in the base game, while the current information allegedly has some additional forms planned for future DLC.
The post does not include images, official documentation or named Pokémon beyond the box mascots. That makes the caveat especially important, since Winds and Waves leaks have been moving quickly and many details remain unverified. Recent rumors have already touched on new Gen 10 Pokémon designs and starter evolution typing, but The Pokémon Company has not confirmed these claimed form details.
What is confirmed is the broader shape of the games. The official Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves site says the pair will launch exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027, with a simultaneous worldwide release. The official reveal also introduced an island-and-ocean setting, the first partner Pokémon Browt, Pombon and Gecqua, plus special Pikachu variants named Mr. Windychu and Ms. Wavychu.
The Legendary form claim remains unconfirmed, just like the rumored battle mechanic attached to it. Until Game Freak or The Pokémon Company shows those systems publicly, it should be read as leak chatter rather than a confirmed Gen 10 feature.
