Pokemon GO Fest 2026: Global is now live, and this year's worldwide event has a much lower barrier than usual. Niantic says the July 11 and July 12 event is free for all logged-in players, with Mega Mewtwo X, Mega Mewtwo Y and Zeraora all tied to the weekend's raids and research.

The official Pokemon GO Fest 2026: Global page lists the event hours as 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. local time on both days. During that window, players can access Special Research for Zeraora, branching Timed Research that asks them to choose between Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y, increased Shiny odds, hourly Field Research and Global Challenges.

Mega Mewtwo is the raid chase this weekend

Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y are the biggest prizes because GO Fest 2026 marks their Pokemon GO debut. Niantic's separate Mega Mewtwo GO Fest update says Mewtwo can now Mega Evolve into either form, including Mewtwo that players already caught, but each form uses its own rare Mega Energy.

Global players can earn that energy by defeating Mega Mewtwo X or Mega Mewtwo Y in Super Mega Raids during the event. Mewtwo caught from those Super Mega Battles will have at least one Mega Level already unlocked, removing the initial Mega Energy cost for that caught Mewtwo. Some may even start at Mega Level 2 or 3.

The two raid forms also come with different featured attacks. Mewtwo caught from Mega Mewtwo X Super Mega Raids will know Counter, while Mewtwo caught from Mega Mewtwo Y Super Mega Raids will know Psystrike. That gives raid-focused players a reason to chase both forms beyond simply filling out the Mega Evolution collection.

Zeraora arrives through free Special Research

Zeraora is the other major unlock for Global GO Fest. Niantic says players who log in during the event weekend receive Special Research leading to an encounter with the Thunderclap Pokemon, and that Special Research does not expire. Players who already encountered Zeraora at the Tokyo, Chicago or Copenhagen GO Fest events will receive Zeraora Candy instead.

The event's Timed Research is more time-sensitive. It branches into a Mega Mewtwo X or Mega Mewtwo Y path, so players need to make a choice if they want the research rewards connected to one form. Event tracking from Leek Duck also lists Saturday as the Mega Mewtwo X Super Mega Raid day and Sunday as the Mega Mewtwo Y Super Mega Raid day, matching the two-day structure of the Global event.

Global GO Fest is also handing out broader event bonuses, including up to nine free Raid Passes per day from Gym Photo Discs, up to six Special Trades per day, half Stardust cost for trades, one-hour Lure Modules and Incense encounters excluding Daily Adventure Incense.

Gamers Now previously covered how Mega Mewtwo raids introduced Pokemon GO's Unity Attack mechanic, which turns Super Mega Raids into a more visibly cooperative group activity. The difference now is access: the earlier GO Fest rollout was tied to real-world events, while Global GO Fest opens the Mewtwo and Zeraora chase to everyone who can log in during the weekend.
