Helldivers 2 is getting a performance-focused update on May 27, with Arrowhead Game Studios adding modern upscaling support, new visual optimization options and lower-latency features across PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
The update is part of Arrowhead's latest technical push for the co-op shooter. In an official Steam news post, the studio said it worked with Nixxes on the release, which targets stability, latency reduction and upscaling. Arrowhead said the patch will also include additional fixes.
PC, PS5 and Xbox are all getting upscaling changes
On PC, Helldivers 2 will support FSR 4.0.3 on supported high-end GPUs, alongside FSR 3.1.5, DLSS 4.5 and XeSS 3.0. PS5 Pro players will get PSSR, while base PS5 and Xbox players will use FSR 3.1.
The console side is getting more than upscaling. VRR support is coming to PS5 and PS5 Pro for players using compatible displays, while Dynamic Resolution Scaling is being added across PS5, Xbox Series X and PC to help keep frame rates steadier in demanding fights. Arrowhead also says the Performance preset on PS5 and Xbox Series X is being raised to 1440p, with the same resolution boost coming to the Quality preset in PS5 Power Saving Mode.
Variable Rate Shading is also being added to reduce GPU load in parts of the image where full shading detail is less important. On PC, Nvidia Reflex and AMD Anti-Lag 2 are being introduced to cut input latency during combat.
Arrowhead is tying the patch to a wider technical reset
The timing makes this more than a routine graphics-options patch. Earlier this month, Arrowhead said it wanted to communicate more clearly about Helldivers 2's biggest issues, including tech and performance work, balance plans, player progression and the Galactic War. Gamers Now previously covered Arrowhead's promise of deeper progression and Galactic War changes, with the first results from that broader work planned for this summer.
This May 27 update looks like the technical side of that same reset. Arrowhead said it will monitor all platforms and hardware configurations after release, then make more adjustments where needed. The studio is also preparing another tech-focused update later this summer.
For squads still dropping into Helldivers 2, the practical benefit should be clearer image quality and fewer rough performance moments without giving up responsiveness. The patch will not answer every long-term question around progression or the Galactic War, but it gives Arrowhead a concrete first test for its new communication push.
