Pokémon TCG Pocket's next expansion is Ruler of the Skies, a Rayquaza-led booster release coming to the mobile card game on July 29 at 6 p.m. PDT. The new pack arrives one month after Everyday Wonders, keeping the game's quick cadence of card drops moving into late summer.
The Pokémon Company has listed the expansion on Pokemon.com, while the official Pokémon TCG Pocket site now points players toward the same announcement. Ruler of the Skies is headlined by Mega Rayquaza ex, with Mega Gallade ex, Mega Metagross ex and Swanna ex also among the revealed cards.
Mega Rayquaza ex is the face card for the set. The revealed version has 180 HP and uses Mega Burst, an attack that discards all Fire and Lightning Energy from Mega Rayquaza ex, then deals 50 damage for each Energy discarded that way. Early revealed cards also include Genesect, Dragonair, Psyduck, Absol, Skyla, Wally and Rainbow Cave.
Ruler of the Skies Adds More Than New Cards
The expansion is also bringing a few quality-of-life changes that regular players will notice outside booster pulls. Decks will be shareable through 2D pattern codes, cards that appear in multiple booster packs will register across those packs in the Card Dex and the game is adding a system where the next pack from an expansion can be guaranteed to include a four-diamond card or higher when certain pack-opening conditions are met.
Those changes make the update a little broader than a normal pack reveal. Deck-code sharing should make it easier for players to pass around builds, while the Card Dex change cleans up collection tracking for cards that appear in more than one booster.
Ruler of the Skies will also feed into upcoming missions and events. The first half of August is set to include Ruler of the Skies Emblem Events, and elite deck gift missions are planned from late July through late October with a Fighting-type deck led by Mega Lucario ex and Hitmonchan ex.
For Pokémon TCG Pocket players, the main chase will still be Mega Rayquaza ex. The bigger update is that the new set is landing with competitive events, collection improvements and a clearer way to share decks, giving players more to do once the booster pack goes live next week.
