Fallout 76 is about to make parts of Appalachia less predictable again. Bethesda Game Studios has announced Infestations, a free update launching June 2 that turns dozens of familiar map locations into new trouble spots for all players.
The feature changes areas that were previously considered safe, or at least under control, into possible Infestation sites. Bethesda says players will not always know where an Infestation will appear or which faction or force will take over the area, but each one is designed to offer a challenge with matching rewards.
Creative Director Jon Rush and Senior Community Manager Richard Stanford walk through the update in Bethesda's new Developer Deep Dive video. The post does not list every affected location, which leaves some of the discovery to the update itself once Infestations goes live.
Infestations follows Fallout 76's recent Backwoods update, which added surprise Legendary enemies to select Public Events. Together, the two updates give veteran Appalachia wanderers more reasons to watch their route, even in areas and events they have cleared many times before.
June 2 will also bring Fallout 76 Season 25, titled Appalachia Under Siege, through the game's official Seasons track. Fallout 76 is available on Steam, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, and it is included with Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus Extra.
