007 First Light has gone gold, giving James Bond fans a reassuring milestone just two weeks before IO Interactive's new spy adventure is due to arrive. The studio announced the update through the game's official X account, saying the game is set for May 27 and reminding players that pre-orders include a free Deluxe Edition upgrade.
Going gold means the base version of the game has reached the point where it can be prepared for release. It does not rule out launch updates, bug fixes or post-release support, but it is usually the last major production checkpoint before a game ships. For a licensed release with a fixed date this close, it is a useful sign that 007 First Light is still on schedule.
Bond's Origin Story Is Nearly Ready
007 First Light is a standalone, re-imagined Bond origin story from IO Interactive, the Hitman studio now applying its stealth and improvisational design language to MGM's spy franchise. IO's official game page describes a young, resourceful James Bond entering MI6's training program before earning his 00 status.
IO's official FAQ lists the May 27 release for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, with Nintendo Switch 2 following in summer 2026. IO previously detailed that pre-ordering any edition upgrades players to the Deluxe Edition at no additional cost, with 24-hour early access for digital editions, four outfits, an Agent's Mark weapon skin and Gleaming gadget skins included.
That staggered timing keeps the Switch 2 version in the launch conversation without making it part of the May date. Gamers Now previously covered how the 007 First Light Switch 2 port moved toward late summer, making the current platform plan worth watching as release approaches.
IO has been steadily filling in the game's shape since its gameplay reveal. 007 First Light mixes stealth, gadgets, social infiltration and direct combat, with missions that can be approached quietly or aggressively. The studio has also shown Bond visiting locations such as Slovakia and Kensington, while Patrick Gibson plays the young Bond alongside returning franchise roles including M, Q and Moneypenny.
The gold announcement does not add new gameplay details, but it does make the next step clearer. After years without a major new Bond game, 007 First Light is now close enough that the conversation can shift from whether it will make its date to how IO's particular take on spycraft holds up when players finally get their hands on it.
