HoYoverse is starting to pull Zenless Zone Zero toward its next major arc. The action RPG's new Season 3 teaser, titled "Before the Wind Rises", introduces Roscaelifer and spotlights ten characters tied to the upcoming storyline.
The teaser arrives while Zenless Zone Zero is preparing to close out Season 2 with Version 2.8 on May 6. That update is set to add two S-Rank Agents, Promeia and Starlight - Billy, alongside a main story chapter centered on Remielle's plans and her apparent connection to Sunbringer, a lore-relevant Void Hunter.
Roscaelifer moves into focus
The new trailer highlights Roscaelifer, also called the Celestial Nexus, as the next major explorable area. It is described as a place where humans and Bangboo coexist, and the area is said to have been founded and ruled by Sunbringer.
Season 3's shown cast includes Remielle, Velina, Norma, Severian, Claret, Roxy, Sigrid, Phoenix, The Storyteller and Sunbringer. Some of those names are already familiar in-game, including Remielle and Seth Lowell's brother Severian, while Velina and Norma have already been drip-marketed for Version 3.0.
HoYoverse has not formally confirmed that every character shown in the teaser will become playable. The setup does make them worth watching, since Zenless Zone Zero used a similar early Season 2 teaser to preview characters who later joined the roster.
Velina and Norma are currently the clearest Version 3.0 additions. Velina is listed as a Wind-Anomaly unit, while Norma is a Fire-Stun character. Both belong to the External Strategy Department, the first confirmed faction from Roscaelifer.
Version 3.0 is already taking shape
The teaser also shows Belle and Wise in new outfits, while someone appears to be investigating the protagonists. Their combat playable forms are expected in Version 3.0 through Pyrois, an Ether-Attack unit, giving the next update cycle a major story hook beyond the usual limited banner rotation.
If Zenless Zone Zero keeps to its usual cadence, Season 3 should arrive around mid-June. The game is also headed to Steam, though HoYoverse has not announced an exact Steam launch date. Players can already wishlist it there, with free rewards tied to wishlist milestones.
For now, Zenless Zone Zero players still have Version 2.8 first. Cissia's debut banner runs until May 5, then Promeia and Starlight - Billy take over as the final Season 2 update starts setting up the jump to Roscaelifer.
