Capcom has not announced the exact launch date for Onimusha: Way of the Sword yet, but the company's latest cross-promotion is giving the game's 2026 window a louder nudge. A new report says the official Onimusha social account was pulled into a Pragmata-style "hack" that ended with Diana finding a file tied to the game's release date before being interrupted.
The gag stops short of revealing the date, which is the important caveat. Onimusha: Way of the Sword is still officially listed for 2026, and Capcom has not narrowed that to a month or day. The tease does make the timing feel deliberate, especially after Capcom's March Spotlight gave the game another major showing without moving beyond the broad 2026 launch window.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword is the first new mainline Onimusha game in roughly two decades. Capcom announced the revival at The Game Awards 2024 as a swordplay action game set in early Edo-period Kyoto, where Malice has twisted the city and brought back the demonic Genma. The game follows a lone samurai wielding the Oni Gauntlet, a central piece of Onimusha imagery since the original games.

Capcom is still holding back the exact date
The current public listings keep the same message. On Steam, Capcom describes Onimusha: Way of the Sword as an all-new entry in the series that is "Coming in 2026," with no specific date attached. IGN's March Capcom Spotlight recap also noted that the overview trailer delivered Capcom's best look yet at the game while leaving the release date at 2026.
That makes the Pragmata crossover less of a reveal and more of a signal that Capcom may be preparing the next step. The use of Diana also folds Onimusha into Capcom's broader 2026 lineup, coming after Pragmata gave the publisher another new-franchise win earlier this year.
Way of the Sword is confirmed for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam. Until Capcom says more, the only firm release timing is 2026, but the latest tease gives Onimusha fans a fresh reason to watch the publisher's next showcase beat closely.
