NBA The Run is giving PlayStation 5 players one short test window before launch. PlayStation's official open beta trailer says the 3v3 streetball game will run an open beta on Saturday, May 30 from 10 AM PT to 6 PM PT, ahead of its June 9 release.

The new date turns NBA The Run from a June-window sports game into something players can actually try this weekend. The trailer description also confirms pricing: the standard version is $29.99, while the $39.99 Deluxe Edition includes unlocked Rookie Variants of Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry and Luka Dončić.

NBA The Run open beta announcement trailer
PlayStation's trailer confirms a one-day PS5 open beta for NBA The Run on May 30.

NBA The Run is made by Play by Play Studios and uses the NBA license for a faster, more arcade-focused basketball pitch than the full-season sim lane occupied by NBA 2K. The core format is online 3v3 streetball, with players taking NBA stars onto courts around the world and trying to stack wins through short knockout tournaments.

The beta should answer a question trailers and store pages cannot fully settle: whether the game has the online feel to support its whole premise. The PlayStation Store listing says NBA The Run requires online play, supports up to six online players with PS Plus and uses fast tournament rounds rather than traditional basketball pacing. Its Steam page also lists Easy Anti-Cheat on PC, while the game's official site describes the action as powered by rollback netcode.

Play by Play Studios is pitching NBA The Run around speed, physicality and style. The official descriptions point to poster dunks, ankle-breaking moves, blocks, loose-ball dives and player-specific flair, with streetball courts including Venice Beach and The Tenement in the Philippines. The game also has an in-game currency called Cred for cosmetic unlocks, plus Rookie Variants and streetball legends as part of its progression chase.

Gamers Now covered NBA The Run's June window when Play by Play Studios first broke down its knockout tournaments and momentum-style abilities in April. This update narrows the calendar, adds launch pricing and gives PS5 players a limited chance to test the game before paying for it.

One caveat: this specific open beta announcement is for PS5. The official NBA The Run site links the game to PS5, Xbox and Steam, and Steam lists a June 9 planned release date, but the beta trailer does not say whether Xbox or PC players will get the same early access window.

NBA The Run launches June 9, 2026. Players interested in the May 30 beta can wishlist the game now through the PlayStation Store.
