Square Enix has released a free Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth demo on Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S, giving new players a long early look before the full game arrives on both platforms on June 3.

Progress made in the demo will carry over to the full version. Players who have demo save data on their device when the game launches can also claim a Kupo Charm and a Survival Set, the latter of which includes bonus healing items for the opening hours.

The download is not small. The demo is listed at 45GB on Nintendo Switch 2 and 91GB on Xbox Series X|S, which makes it closer to a serious pre-launch trial than a tiny sampler.

Cloud and the party stand in a town area in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
The demo covers Final Fantasy VII Rebirth's opening chapters, including the early stretch around Kalm.

The demo covers the first two chapters of Rebirth. Chapter 1 revisits Cloud's memories of the Nibelheim incident, while Chapter 2 moves into the present-day story as the party reaches Kalm after escaping Midgar at the end of Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

That means the trial includes both the story-heavy flashback opening and the first taste of Rebirth's wider areas, including early access to Queen's Blood. It also includes some of the streamlined progression options Square Enix has prepared for players catching up or replaying the adventure.

The Switch 2 and Xbox release gives Rebirth another chance to reach players who missed its initial PlayStation 5 launch. The save transfer is the important practical detail here: anyone who starts the demo today can keep moving when the full version unlocks on June 3, instead of replaying the opening chapters from scratch.
