Dune: Awakening arrives on PlayStation 5 on September 22, and Funcom has now outlined what console players are getting beyond the release date: PS5-specific optimization, physical editions and the game's new full single-player mode.

The survival game has been available on PC since last year. In an official PlayStation update, Funcom said the PS5 launch will include the content updates and system changes made during that PC run, so PlayStation players start with the expanded version rather than the original PC launch build.

PS5 Pro gets 60fps without frame generation

Funcom says Dune: Awakening has been adjusted for console controls and UI, with optimization work covering both the base PS5 and PS5 Pro.

On the standard PS5, Performance Mode will run at 60fps with frame generation. On PS5 Pro, Performance Mode runs at 60fps without frame generation. Quality Mode runs at 30fps on both systems. Funcom also says both modes run in upscaled 4K on PS5 and PS5 Pro, with more specific native resolution details due closer to launch.

That gives PS5 owners a clearer idea of how the huge Arrakis survival game is being translated from PC. Dune: Awakening is an open-world survival game with building, crafting, faction competition and a cinematic alternate Dune storyline where Paul Atreides was never born.

Solo play is the biggest new mode

The largest addition is single-player. Dune: Awakening is currently multiplayer-only on PC, and Funcom says solo play has been one of the most requested features.

The studio is not simply removing other players from the existing format. In multiplayer, the endgame includes House Atreides and House Harkonnen competing over objectives tied to the Landsraad, with decisions affecting everyone on a server. In single-player, Funcom says rival activity will be simulated so the endgame still has faction pressure without live opponents.

Solo players will also be able to customize the survival rules. Funcom specifically mentions faster resource harvesting and the option to disable the sandworm, with similar customization available on rented private servers.

Physical copies are planned worldwide

Funcom also confirmed that Dune: Awakening will get a physical edition. Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe will handle retail copies in Europe, Australia and New Zealand, while Solutions 2 GO will handle North and South America. Japan is expected to get the game in October, with a local publisher still to be announced.

Dune: Awakening can be wishlisted and pre-ordered for PS5 now. The PlayStation version launches September 22.
