Remedy has shared how New Game Plus will work in *Control Resonant*, confirming that a second playthrough will carry over much of Dylan's combat growth while holding back traversal abilities that are still tied to story progression.
In the new update, Remedy said New Game Plus lets players begin a fresh run with their Aberrant upgrades, health and combat ability resource improvements, unlocked supernatural combat abilities, talents and artifacts intact. Traversal abilities will not transfer, since those unlocks are connected to how the game's world opens up.
That setup gives returning players a larger toolbox from the start, but Remedy is also changing how builds can come together on a second run. New talent nodes will unlock as players progress, and New Game Plus will allow multiple different combat abilities from the same boss to be equipped at once. Remedy says that should create combinations that are not possible during a first playthrough, where players cannot unlock everything in one run.
Artifacts get a bigger role on the second run
The update also gives a clearer look at artifacts, an equipment system for passive modifiers. Artifacts can affect survivability, combat performance, exploration or the resource economy, and some include conditions or trade-offs instead of simply making Dylan stronger.
Players can equip up to three artifacts during a first playthrough. New Game Plus opens a fourth artifact slot, giving returning players more room to fine-tune a build. Untapped artifacts can be found throughout the world and crafted into usable artifacts in the Gap.
Manhattan will hit back harder
Remedy is not positioning New Game Plus as a simple victory lap. The studio says Manhattan will become more demanding, with more dangerous enemies, shifted encounters and some bosses gaining new behaviors that can force different strategies.
The studio also says a repeat run can be used to revisit World Quests, bounties and collectibles, along with different outcomes in some side stories and conversations. That makes New Game Plus part buildcrafting mode, part completionist pass through a world that continues to change as players push deeper into it.
*Control Resonant* is due to release on PlayStation 5 in 2026.
