Virtua Fighter Crossroads has added a new mystery to its roster rollout. The latest official trailer introduces Bakunawa Killer, a masked fighter whose style and story scene are already pushing fans toward a few familiar Virtua Fighter names.
The footage, hosted on the official Virtua Fighter YouTube channel, mixes quick story shots with a short move demonstration. It also shows Pai Chan knocking off the newcomer's mask, then reacting in shock before the trailer cuts away from the reveal.
That tease is doing most of the work. Bakunawa Killer is presented as a new roster reveal, but the trailer's framing suggests the identity behind the mask is part of the character's hook rather than a simple debut.
The obvious guess is Lau Chan, Pai's father and one of Virtua Fighter's legacy fighters. The martial arts style and Pai's reaction line up with that theory, although the trailer does not confirm it. The source article also notes that Lau's earlier illness and age complicate the idea, unless Crossroads is playing with the series' J6 plot thread in a new way.
Lei-Fei is another plausible name in the mix. In Virtua Fighter 5, the Shaolin monk was tied to Lau Chan's fighting style and wanted to learn his secrets, which gives him a cleaner connection to the mask than a totally new character would have.
None of that changes the confirmed news: Bakunawa Killer is the next Virtua Fighter Crossroads roster reveal, and Sega is deliberately keeping the fighter's face out of view. The rain-slicked rooftop stage shown in the trailer also gives the reveal a more dramatic look than a standard character spotlight.
Virtua Fighter Crossroads is the next mainline entry in Sega's fighting series. It is currently expected in 2027 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
