Krafton appears to be staffing up for Tera 2, pointing to a serious new push for the action MMORPG series after the original game's servers closed in 2022.

The publisher is hiring through Bluehole Studio, its subsidiary and the original developer behind Tera, with roles listed through Krafton's careers site. Listings on Krafton's careers site include senior client programmer and client programmer lead roles, which suggests the project has moved beyond the earliest concept stage and into heavier production work.

The new game is being built in Unreal Engine 5. The listings also point to a continuation of Tera's open, action-oriented combat focus, the part of the original MMO that helped it stand apart from more traditional tab-targeting online RPGs.

That matters because Tera's identity was never just its fantasy world. It was one of the better-known MMORPGs to push real-time aiming, dodging and positioning at a time when many big online RPGs still leaned on hotbar rotations and locked targets. A sequel keeping that DNA would give Krafton a clearer pitch than simply trying to re-enter the MMO market with a familiar name.

There is no sign in the reported job listings that generative AI is part of Tera 2's development. That detail stands out because Krafton CEO Chang Byung-gyu has previously described the PUBG publisher as an "AI-first company," with AI placed at the center of problem-solving.

The timing is interesting for a different reason too. New MMORPGs remain expensive, risky bets, especially as live-service games across the industry fight for long-term player time. Several major online projects have reportedly struggled or been cancelled, while long-running games such as Old School RuneScape and Eve Online continue to show how durable established communities can be.

Krafton has the history to make the attempt feel less random. Before PUBG became its global calling card, the company was tied closely to Tera through Bluehole Studio. Senior leadership has also continued to show interest in having a major MMO in Krafton's portfolio.

For now, Tera 2 is still a hiring-board story rather than a full reveal. There is no release window, platform list, trailer or public gameplay pitch yet. Still, the roles are a meaningful sign that Krafton is putting people behind a sequel to one of its most recognizable pre-PUBG games.
