Conan Exiles Enhanced is live on Steam, giving Funcom's survival game a free Unreal Engine 5 upgrade nearly eight years after its original launch.
The update moves Conan Exiles from Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal Engine 5, with Funcom describing it as the game's most dramatic visual and technical overhaul so far. According to the Steam launch post, the Enhanced edition improves environments, character models, lighting and effects, adds a redesigned UI and targets 60-plus FPS across all graphical presets on most PCs.
Steam Deck support is also part of the update, which is important because Conan Exiles has always been a large, systems-heavy survival game. Funcom says the client size has been cut to 68GB, down from a previous 120GB, which should make the Steam Deck pitch a little easier to swallow.
The biggest structural change is how the game handles its maps. The Exiled Lands and The Isle of Siptah are now connected, allowing players to travel between them with the same character. The Isle of Siptah is still sold separately, but servers can now host both regions at the same time for players who own the expansion.
Funcom's own FAQ adds a few caveats. Conan Exiles Enhanced is available to Steam owners, while the Unreal Engine 4 version remains available as Conan Exiles Legacy. The studio says there are no current plans to bring the Enhanced update to consoles, though Funcom and co-developer Inflexion Games are considering Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store, Xbox and PlayStation versions later.
There is also a very Conan Exiles footnote in the character creator. The game's launch material calls out an "enhanced endowment slider," continuing the long-running joke around the game's adjustable nude character options. It is not the meaningful part of the update, but it is absolutely the part returning players will notice in screenshots.
The free upgrade arrives just ahead of Conan Exiles' May 8 anniversary. Funcom says all current and future Steam owners get Conan Exiles Enhanced at no extra cost.
