Phasmophobia's first outside collaboration is now live, and it is a natural fit for horror fans. Phasmophobia by Alan Wake is a limited-time event available on Xbox Series X|S from May 12 until June 2.

The event brings Alan Wake 2's psychological horror flavor into Kinetic Games' co-op ghost-hunting game. Kinetic is not describing the collaboration as a full merger of the two games. Instead, the studio says it focused on atmosphere, lighting, sound and environmental storytelling that can sit inside Phasmophobia's existing investigations.

That distinction is important for a game where the tension often comes from voice chat, equipment checks and the moment a routine hunt turns messy. Phasmophobia has spent years refining that loop since its Early Access launch in 2020, with Xbox players recently seeing changes such as the Character Update's new avatars and full-body immersion.

Kinetic Games marketing and partnerships director Asim Tanvir said Alan Wake 2 was chosen because its darker tone matched where Phasmophobia is now.

"The tone, atmosphere and psychological edge of Alan Wake 2 aligns closely with what we try to create with Phasmophobia; both games focus on tension and the unknown, they just express them in different ways."

According to Tanvir, the team looked at how to respect Alan Wake 2 without replacing Phasmophobia's core systems. The aim was to give investigations a different edge while keeping the same structure of investigating, communicating and surviving with other players.

Kinetic also framed the event as a milestone for Phasmophobia. Tanvir said the collaboration "opens the door to new possibilities for the future" and that the studio would like to explore more collaborations if they feel like the right fit.

For now, the confirmed window is short. Xbox Series X|S players have until June 2 to jump into Phasmophobia by Alan Wake and see how Remedy's horror world has been folded into the ghost-hunting formula.
