Order of the Sinking Star is coming to PS5 later in 2026, giving PlayStation players a confirmed version of Jonathan Blow and Thekla's next oversized puzzle adventure.

PlayStation confirmed the PS5 release with a new announcement and extended overview trailer. A PlayStation Blog hands-on report also says the game has been in development for ten years at a team of around 20 people, with more than 900 levels, multiple endings and hundreds of hours of gameplay.

Order of the Sinking Star PS5 announcement and extended overview trailer
PlayStation's trailer confirms Order of the Sinking Star for PS5 later in 2026.

The PS5 news adds another major console to a game that had already made a strong pitch to puzzle fans on PC and Nintendo Switch 2. The Steam page lists Thekla as developer and Arc Games as publisher, and describes Order of the Sinking Star as a puzzle adventure with more than one thousand hand-crafted puzzles. Nintendo's store page lists the Switch 2 version for 2026.

That scale is the obvious headline, but it is not the most interesting part of the pitch. Thekla is presenting Order of the Sinking Star as a puzzle game where separate worlds, characters and rule sets eventually crash into one another. The Steam listing describes four worlds with their own mechanics and stories, while the PlayStation hands-on describes early sections that move between a queen, a warrior, a thief, a wizard, an explorer, a trader and other characters with distinct ways to manipulate the world.

That puts Order of the Sinking Star closer to The Witness in ambition than to a simple box-pushing collection, even though some of its individual puzzles have Sokoban-like roots. The important detail for puzzle players is how the game appears to stack ideas over time. Characters can push, pull, swap, charm, protect or redirect parts of a puzzle space, then later interact across worlds once those systems start overlapping.

The PlayStation trailer also gives the game a clearer platform moment after its earlier PC and Switch 2 messaging. Order of the Sinking Star was already included in our May trailer roundup, where the Switch 2 reveal made the game look like a good fit for players willing to carry a notebook alongside a handheld. A PS5 version changes the console picture, especially for players who followed Braid or The Witness on PlayStation and have been waiting for Thekla's next long-form puzzle game.

There are still practical details missing. PlayStation has not announced a specific release date, price or PS Store page at the time of writing. The confirmed window is later in 2026 on PS5, while Steam still lists the PC release date as to be announced and Nintendo lists the Switch 2 version for 2026.

Even with those gaps, the PS5 announcement gives Order of the Sinking Star a much wider console path. The game is no longer just a PC puzzle epic with a Switch 2 angle. It is now also a PlayStation release from one of modern puzzle design's most recognizable creators, and its final test will be whether that huge structure feels inviting once players can actually start untangling it.
