Nintendo is turning its earlier European battery compliance plan into a real Switch 2 hardware rollout. In a new Nintendo of Europe support notice, the company says a revised Nintendo Switch 2 console is expected to become available through Nintendo Store in Europe this autumn with a user-replaceable battery.
The revised Switch 2 is being prepared ahead of European battery regulation changes coming into effect in mid-February 2027. Nintendo says selected products in Europe will be replaced on a rolling basis by versions that contain user-replaceable batteries, with no difference in functionality between the current versions and the revised ones.
The Switch 2 revision changes the battery and weight
Nintendo lists the revised Switch 2 console with a 5172mAh battery, down from 5220mAh in the current model. That is approximately 1% smaller. The console itself will weigh approximately 411g, around 10g heavier than the current 401g version. With the revised Joy-Con 2 controllers attached, the total weight will be approximately 548g, around 14g heavier than the current 534g setup.
The included Joy-Con 2 controllers will also contain user-replaceable batteries. Nintendo says separate Joy-Con 2 controllers with user-replaceable batteries will arrive later, sold as a pair or as individual left and right controllers after the revised console becomes available.
This is a more concrete update to the compliance path Nintendo laid out earlier, when the company said future Switch 2 hardware in Europe would use OSM packaging codes to identify battery-ready products. The new support page gives buyers a clearer window and explains which accessories are changing alongside the console.
Several Nintendo accessories are changing too
Nintendo's rollout starts with selected original Joy-Con colours from summer 2026. The revised Switch 2 console follows in autumn, then Joy-Con 2 controllers and the Switch 2 Pro Controller arrive this winter. The Pro Controller revision has a smaller 897mAh battery, down from 1070mAh, and a lighter 228g weight.
Nintendo 64 controllers for Nintendo Switch and GameCube controllers for Nintendo Switch 2 are planned for early 2027. The GameCube controller revision will increase battery capacity from 500mAh to 525mAh, while the Nintendo 64 controller keeps the same battery capacity and gains around 1g in weight.
Buyers may not be able to pick between old and revised versions on Nintendo Store. Nintendo says each product will be replaced as current stock sells out, and regional timing may vary because of manufacturing, distribution and other factors. Battery replacement kits for each revised product will be sold through Nintendo Store in Europe in the future.
The support page also confirms that the original Nintendo Switch, Switch Lite and Switch OLED Model will not be replaced by user-replaceable battery versions in Europe. Those systems will continue to be manufactured and widely available in 2026, but Nintendo will stop selling Switch family hardware to retailers, and through Nintendo Store, from mid-February 2027.
