Minecraft is getting a new forest biome in its third game drop of 2026, and Mojang paired the reveal with the official title for the next Minecraft movie.
During Minecraft Live at TwitchCon Europe, Mojang showed the Dappled Forest, a warm-looking biome planned for the game's next drop after Chaos Cubed. The studio says it will share more about the fall drop later, so the reveal is an early look at the biome instead of a full patch breakdown.
The Dappled Forest is coming in Minecraft's third 2026 drop
Mojang describes the Dappled Forest as a colorful biome filled with burnished poplar trees, red shrubs and mysterious abandoned camps. The official recap also calls out warm gray poplar wood and herringbone-pattern decoration ideas, which suggests the new tree type will matter beyond scenery once the drop lands.
The reveal follows Chaos Cubed, another 2026 game drop that adds sulfur caves and the sulfur cube mob. Mojang has been using smaller, named drops to keep Minecraft updates moving throughout the year, and the Dappled Forest is now the headline biome for the third drop.
The studio has not listed every block, mob or crafting recipe tied to the new biome yet. It has only said that the fall drop will get a fuller reveal later.
A Minecraft Movie Squared gets its title
The same Minecraft Live segment also confirmed the sequel to A Minecraft Movie will be called A Minecraft Movie Squared. Mojang's recap says Danielle Brooks hinted at new adventures and mobs, Matt Berry is returning as an undisclosed character after playing the Nitwit and Kirsten Dunst will play Alex.
The movie portion also introduced The Minecraft Movie Build Challenge, a community event asking players to submit movie-inspired builds. Mojang says selected builds may appear in the movie or its end credits, with prizes including a private screening and movie tickets.
Minecraft Live included a few other announcements beyond the base game and movie sequel. Mojang also showed more of Minecraft Dungeons II, including the Twisted Warden enemy, and reiterated that the dungeon crawler sequel is coming later this year to Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Steam, Xbox on PC and Game Pass.
For regular Minecraft players, the Dappled Forest is the main game update from the broadcast. The biome is attached to the third drop of 2026, with Mojang saving the fuller feature list for a later announcement.
