Madden NFL 27 is officially lining up for Nintendo Switch 2 on August 13. Nintendo of America has released the game's Switch 2 reveal trailer, putting EA Sports' annual NFL sim back in front of Nintendo players after last year's long-awaited return of the series to the company's hardware.

The new trailer matters less as a surprise announcement and more as confirmation that Madden's second Switch 2 season is part of EA's main 2026 rollout. The Nintendo store page lists the Switch 2 version for August 13, with TV, tabletop and handheld play modes supported and an estimated 50GB file size. EA's own FAQ also lists Madden NFL 27 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC through the EA app, Steam and Epic Games Store.

That platform confirmation gives Switch 2 owners a clearer answer than they had when an early eShop listing first surfaced in May. Gamers Now covered that Madden NFL 27 Switch 2 listing at the time, when EA had not yet made the game official. The date and platform have now moved from storefront signal to public release plan.

EA says Madden NFL 27 is built around several familiar pressure points for the series: more physical receiver and defensive back interactions, improved short-yardage play, new pre-play controls and defensive coverage updates. Franchise mode is getting a Persona Engine designed to make player motivations, demands and reactions affect league management, while Superstar adds a G.O.A.T. Career Journey that starts before the NFL and expands playable positions to tight end, defensive line and safety.

That feature spread is important on Switch 2 because Madden's Nintendo absence lasted for more than a decade before the series returned. Madden NFL 26 was the first Nintendo console release since Madden NFL 13, so Madden NFL 27 is the first real test of whether EA treats the new hardware as part of the yearly sports cycle instead of a comeback experiment. A day-and-date launch with the other current platforms is the detail Switch 2 sports players needed most.

The official materials do not yet answer every platform-specific question. EA has not shared cross-play details for Madden NFL 27, saying those will come closer to launch, and the Switch 2 store page does not spell out whether every mode or online feature will match the other console versions. For now, Nintendo's listing confirms the portable and docked play modes, the release date and the digital edition's file size.

Caleb Williams is the Madden NFL 27 cover athlete, making the Chicago Bears quarterback the face of this year's game. Standard players get the worldwide launch on August 13, while EA says Deluxe Edition and MVP Bundle buyers can start three days early. MVP+ members get seven-day early access beginning August 6, though EA lists that membership offer for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S rather than Switch 2.

For Switch 2 owners, the useful headline is simple: Madden NFL 27 is no longer just an early listing or a broad August promise. The official trailer and store page put EA's next NFL game on Nintendo's new system for August 13, alongside the rest of this year's major Madden launch.
