Bandai Namco has announced Gundam Rogue Orbit, a new high-mobility action game that puts the long-running mecha franchise into an original timeline. The game is in development at Bandai Namco Studios and is planned for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam in 2027.

The reveal gives Gundam fans something more specific than another franchise tie-in. Rogue Orbit is being presented as a new chapter with its own protagonist, mobile suit and setting, which makes it easier to approach than a game built entirely around existing Universal Century or anime continuity.

Bandai Namco's announcement trailer introduces Gundam Rogue Orbit, a new action game planned for 2027.

Bandai Namco's official game page describes Rogue Orbit as a fast-paced cinematic story with hard-hitting combat in an all-new universe. The publisher says players control RE-X, an ace pilot who fights in the Gundam Helix alongside a crew of unsung soldiers as humanity faces an unknown threat.

The setup matters because Gundam games often live in a tricky space between fan service and accessibility. A new timeline gives Bandai Namco room to use the scale, suit design and battlefield drama that define Gundam without asking new players to arrive with decades of continuity already mapped out. At the same time, the named mobile suit and original pilot suggest this is not just a collection of familiar machines arranged around multiplayer combat.

Combat is the other piece Bandai Namco is putting forward early. The official description highlights melee combat, high mobility, enemy hordes, massive bosses and large environments. That points Rogue Orbit closer to an action-forward Gundam game than a tactical adaptation or a straight arena battler, although Bandai Namco has not yet detailed mission structure, progression, multiplayer features or whether other mobile suits will be playable.

That distinction will be worth watching. Gundam has a strong console and PC audience, but its video game history has moved across several shapes, including crossover action, squad combat, arcade-style versus play and simulation-leaning entries. Rogue Orbit's first pitch is more direct: pilot a specific suit, fight through fast battles and carry a new story rather than replaying a known anime arc.

The confirmed platform list is broad from the start. PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam put Rogue Orbit on the current console generation and PC, with no last-gen versions mentioned. Bandai Namco has only announced a 2027 release window, so there is no exact date, edition information or preorder detail yet.

For now, the unanswered questions are practical ones. Bandai Namco has not said how open the environments are, how much customization Gundam Helix will have or how deep the supporting cast runs. The announcement does establish the important frame: Gundam Rogue Orbit is a new Bandai Namco Studios action game, not a remaster, port or update, and it is being aimed at consoles and PC next year.
