Grounded 2 is sending players into the pond on August 11, when its Into the Abyss update opens one of the biggest new areas yet in Brookhollow Park.
Obsidian Entertainment says the update will let players explore above and below the water's surface, adding new locations, progression systems and threats tied to the park's pond. The studio describes Into the Abyss as the next major content update for the survival sequel.
The headline feature is the pond itself. Players will be able to dive beneath the surface, push into deeper sections and uncover new parts of the map such as the Mountains, the Bayou and the depths under the pond. New diving suits will extend underwater exploration by helping players stay submerged longer and reach areas that would otherwise be out of range.
The pond will not be empty space between objectives. The koi fish and diving bell spider are returning, while Obsidian says new threats will also be waiting below the surface. That gives the update a familiar shape for anyone who played the first Grounded, where underwater exploration was both a resource hunt and a danger zone.
Into the Abyss also adds a new way to travel. The Toe-biter Buggy is an amphibious companion that can move across land and water, giving players another mount-style tool for exploring Brookhollow Park and handling encounters around the pond.
Grounded 2 is still being expanded while it remains in Game Preview and Early Access, so this update is part of a larger rollout rather than a final content drop. Obsidian says Brookhollow Park will continue to grow with more areas, creatures, systems and surprises during development.
Grounded 2 is available in Game Preview on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC and ROG Xbox Ally handhelds. It is also in Early Access on Steam and PlayStation 5. The game is included with Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass, and supports Xbox Play Anywhere on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC.
