God of War Laufey may have been aiming for an earlier 2027 launch than many players expected. Insider NateTheHate said in his post on X that the target he last heard for Santa Monica Studio's next God of War was the first half of 2027, while cautioning that the window could change.
The wording leaves plenty of room for the schedule to move. NateTheHate said, "Last I heard the target was first half 2027. Could change but that was a hope at one point." Sony has not announced a release date or release window for the PS5 game.
That makes the new claim a narrower rumor, not a confirmation. It does, however, sit alongside earlier reporting that God of War Laufey is not expected to be a 2028 game, after Bloomberg's Jason Schreier pushed back on the idea that the sequel was still years away.
Sony has only said Laufey is coming soon
Santa Monica Studio revealed God of War Laufey during PlayStation's June State of Play, where Sony only described the game as "coming soon" to PlayStation 5. The game is already available to wishlist on the PlayStation Store, but its store listing does not include a public launch window.
Laufey puts Faye in the lead role after her funeral, sending her into the Everywhen, an afterlife of the gods where figures from different mythologies can appear. The PlayStation Blog reveal also outlined her sword combat, companions Rue and Phranque and Golden Hand of the Jötnar abilities, which let her attack enemies' souls directly.
An early 2027 launch would make Laufey one of PlayStation's biggest announced first-party games for the first half of that year. Until Sony or Santa Monica Studio says more, though, the only official timing remains "coming soon" on PS5.
