Destiny 2 players are dealing with a Barrier Champion problem that can make some endgame runs far more fragile than usual. The bug appears to affect Primary weapons, leaving Barrier shields much harder to break in high-end activities where a missed stun can quickly ruin an encounter.
The issue was flagged by Destiny 2 creator Cheese Forever and verified in-game by Game Rant. According to the report, Grandmaster and Ultimate activities with Barrier Champions are especially affected because Primary ammo weapons are taking far longer than expected to break shields, or failing to do it cleanly at all.
That is a serious problem for Destiny 2's Champion system. Barrier enemies shield themselves after taking damage, then recover unless players break that shield with anti-Barrier tools. Primary weapons are usually a safe part of that setup because they do not run out of ammo, which makes them a dependable fallback when a fireteam is already under pressure.
Primary anti-Barrier weapons are the weak point
The reported bug does not seem to hit every weapon type equally. Legendary weapons using Special or Power ammo can still break shields quickly, while Primary ammo weapons are the ones causing trouble. Exotic Primaries are reportedly in better shape than Legendary Primaries, but even they are not behaving as strongly as players expect.
Wish-Ender is the clearest example. The Exotic bow has long been a favorite anti-Barrier pick, partly because it could tear through Champion shields with very little fuss. Under the current bug, it reportedly no longer one-shots those shields in situations where it previously did.
That pushes players toward ammo-limited options in the exact activities where reliability matters most. Grandmaster-level content already punishes sloppy Champion control, and Ultimate activities leave even less room for a shield break that takes too long. A Barrier Champion healing through a failed stun can turn a manageable fight into a reset.
Another late Destiny 2 stability headache
The timing makes the bug stand out. Destiny 2 is now past its final planned live-service update, with Bungie shifting the game toward a more static long-term state. The studio has still been patching problems, including the recent Update 9.7.0.2 fixes for boss exploits, catalyst bugs and raid issues.
This Barrier Champion issue is different from a fun cheese or a harmless oddity. It affects the basic combat language of Destiny 2's toughest PvE content: bring the correct anti-Champion answer, stun the enemy, keep the run alive.
Bungie has not announced a fix in the sourced report. Until one arrives, fireteams may want to test their anti-Barrier loadouts before committing to a Grandmaster or Ultimate run, especially if their plan leans on Legendary Primary weapons or old Exotic Primary habits.
