Blades of Fire has moved into Version 2.0, giving MercurySteam's dark fantasy action adventure a larger post-launch shape just as the game reaches Steam.

The official Version 2.0 page says the update is rolling out across all platforms on May 14. Its headline additions are New Game Plus, a new Titanium challenge level, new weapon parts and skins tied to New Game Plus, element transmutation, Photo Mode and Boss Revival Mode. The Steam page also lists Version 2.0 as part of the PC release, alongside the Adventurer Pack, artbook and original soundtrack by Óscar Araujo.

Blades of Fire Version 2.0 Launch Trailer
PlayStation's Version 2.0 launch trailer highlights the latest update for Blades of Fire.

The update is more meaningful than a standard quality-of-life pass because Blades of Fire is a game about committing to weapons, not constantly replacing them. Its central pitch is that Aran de Lira can forge true steel in a world where metal has been turned to stone, with each weapon shaped by materials, intended enemies and combat style. New Game Plus and extra weapon parts give returning players a reason to keep testing that system after the credits, while element transmutation sounds aimed at giving more flexibility to players who already understand how the forging loop works.

Titanium difficulty and Boss Revival Mode also fit the game's harder-edged action identity. Blades of Fire was already pitched around deliberate melee combat, stamina, spacing and enemy knowledge rather than pure speed. A tougher challenge level is a direct invitation to the part of the audience that wants mastery runs, while replayable bosses with rewards should make high-skill fights easier to revisit without restarting the whole adventure.

The Steam launch changes the audience as much as the update does. Blades of Fire originally launched in May 2025 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Epic Games Store, but its Steam release gives the game a broader PC storefront presence almost a year later. Steam also lists Steam Deck support, full keyboard and mouse remapping, new achievements and Nvidia DLSS 4 implementation among Version 2.0's additions, which matters for a game where timing and input comfort can shape the whole feel of combat.

On console, the PlayStation Store listing says Blades of Fire includes Version 2.0 and that the Adventurer Pack is now available free for everyone. The official site says all platforms receive Update 2.0 on May 14, so PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Epic Games Store and Steam players should be looking at the same major content drop rather than a Steam-only relaunch.

Blades of Fire is developed by MercurySteam and published by 505 Games. MercurySteam is still best known to many players for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and Metroid Dread, but Blades of Fire is a different kind of statement from the studio: slower, heavier and focused on the fantasy of making one weapon matter. Version 2.0 gives that idea a longer tail, especially for players who were waiting for the Steam version before jumping in.
