Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick says Borderlands 4's paused Nintendo Switch 2 version is not being held up because the game cannot run on Nintendo's new hardware.

In an interview with Game File, Zelnick said the Switch 2 version is still a real pause, but tied that decision to Gearbox's work on the versions already in players' hands, especially the Steam release. Asked whether the issue was technical feasibility on Switch 2, Zelnick said: "It's doable."

Borderlands 4 is still waiting on Switch 2

Borderlands 4's Switch 2 version was put on pause earlier this year, after previously being announced for Nintendo's system and then delayed close to launch. Zelnick's latest comments narrow the reason for the hold: Take-Two wants the game in better shape before adding another platform.

"We've been addressing those challenges, and we want to make sure that we've fully addressed Borderlands 4 from a consumer's point of view before we bring it to more platforms."

The distinction is important for Switch 2 owners. A technical blocker would suggest the port itself had hit a wall. Zelnick's answer instead frames the delay as a production and quality-control decision, with Take-Two keeping the door open once Borderlands 4's current problems are further addressed.

Zelnick also said Take-Two still wants to support Switch 2, though he was blunt about the publisher's console priorities.

"We want to be wherever the consumer is, and we've supported Switch 2. You can tell from what we are doing and what we're not doing that our primary console platforms remain Sony and Microsoft."

Take-Two has already backed Switch 2 with Civilization VII and NBA 2K26, while PGA 2K26 and WWE 2K26 have also come to the platform. Borderlands 4 remains the missing piece in that lineup, and Zelnick's comments suggest the question is when Gearbox is comfortable expanding the game, not whether Switch 2 can handle it.
