Plaion has answered a fresh round of practical questions about the Neo Geo AES+, with the new official FAQ video focusing on the details collectors usually care about before buying into revived retro hardware.
The headline confirmation is compatibility. The newly produced Neo Geo AES+ cartridges will be region-free, meaning they should work on any AES system regardless of region, including original Neo Geo AES consoles from the 1990s. Plaion also says each game will include a manual.
That keeps the AES+ pitch close to the original collector ecosystem instead of treating the machine as a closed modern mini-console. Plaion's official product page already describes the system as a hardware-faithful reimplementation powered by re-engineered ASIC chips, with support for both new AES cartridges and original AES cartridges.
Older AES accessories remain part of the plan
The FAQ also confirms cross-generation controller support. New AES+ accessories are compatible with older AES hardware, while original AES controllers can also be used with the Neo Geo AES+.
The same applies to the wireless Arcade Stick included with the white Anniversary Edition. Although it is sold as a wireless stick, Plaion says it will also ship with a cable so it can be used wired. The Anniversary Edition product page lists a 15-pin Arcade Stick cable and USB-C charge cable among the bundle contents.
Display output gets one more useful clarification. Plaion has reconfirmed HDMI output for modern screens alongside AV output for older setups, and the FAQ says the AV connection supports RGB.
The white Metal Slug cartridge stays bundle-only
One question had a less flexible answer. The white version of Metal Slug, bundled with the white 35th Anniversary Edition of the Neo Geo AES+, will not be sold separately.
That matches Plaion's original positioning for the bundle, which includes the white console, wireless white Arcade Stick, white Memory Card and exclusive white Metal Slug cartridge. The wider Neo Geo AES+ launch is still set for November 12, 2026, with Standard and Anniversary Edition hardware planned alongside the first wave of cartridge releases.
For retro players, the FAQ does not radically change the system's pitch. It does make the buying decision clearer: Plaion is leaning hard into real cartridge compatibility, old-controller support and collector-style packaging, while keeping one of the most eye-catching Metal Slug variants locked to the premium bundle.
