LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight has gone gold, meaning TT Games has finished the base version of its next LEGO adventure ahead of launch. For a game now less than a month away, that is the milestone Batman fans wanted to see before Gotham opens up again.
The timing is important because Legacy of the Dark Knight is currently scheduled to launch on May 22, 2026 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store. The official game FAQ still lists the Nintendo Switch 2 version for later in 2026, with that release timing to be announced separately.
Gotham is nearly ready for players
Going gold does not mean the game will be untouched between now and launch. Modern releases can still receive updates, patches and last-minute fixes before or around release day. It does mean the core build is complete, which makes a delay less likely unless something unexpected happens during the final stretch.
Legacy of the Dark Knight is TT Games' first new title since LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga in 2022. The studio is returning to Batman with an original story that follows Bruce Wayne's path from training with the League of Shadows to becoming Gotham City's protector, while folding in decades of Batman history from comics, films, TV and games.
The new game is also more focused than many older LEGO adaptations. Warner Bros. Games says players will control Batman, Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, Jim Gordon, Catwoman and Talia al Ghul, each with their own skills, gadgets and progression. The official FAQ also confirms an open-world Gotham City, local two-player couch co-op only and no real-money microtransactions.
Deluxe Edition owners can start earlier
Players who pre-order the Deluxe Edition on PS5, Xbox Series X|S or PC are set to receive 72-hour early access beginning May 19. Standard Edition pre-orders include The Dark Knight Returns Batsuit at launch, while the Deluxe Edition also includes launch-day themed packs and the Mayhem Collection, a post-launch DLC drop planned for September 2026.
The Steam listing describes Legacy of the Dark Knight as a narrative-led action-adventure with open-world traversal, Batmobiles, Batcycles, detective skills, gadgets and a roster of villains that includes The Joker, The Penguin, Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy and Bane.
Batman has had one of the stronger video game runs among DC heroes, from the Arkham games to TT Games' earlier LEGO Batman releases. Legacy of the Dark Knight now has the practical hurdle cleared before launch, leaving the bigger question for May: whether this new LEGO version of Gotham can satisfy both family co-op players and fans still waiting for another major Batman game.
