Abiotic Factor has rolled out Cosmic Companions, a free 1.3.0 update that adds a major pet overhaul, a new chemistry system, another portal world and more than 100 new items to Deep Field Games' co-op survival crafting game.
The update is especially easy to miss if Abiotic Factor has been sitting untouched in a subscription backlog. The game joined PS Plus Extra as a day-one console launch title in July 2025, so subscribers who already have access can jump into the new content without buying a separate DLC pack. The game is also sold normally on PlayStation, PC and Xbox.
According to Deep Field Games' Cosmic Companions patch notes, version 1.3.0.25766 is live across Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and the PC app. The developer also warns PC players using mods to uninstall them if they hit a fatal error crash after updating.
Pets can now become proper field companions
The headline addition is Pets 2.0. Abiotic Factor now has a companion pet slot, letting tamed creatures follow scientists into expeditions without being permanently killed when they take lethal damage. Pets can gain experience from food, level up, grow stronger, mutate into new variants and join combat.
Peccaries are part of that expansion too. The update adds Peccary taming, several Peccary variants, new pet beds and more ways to carry, feed, rename and manage tamed creatures around the facility. The patch also adds a new portal world, Dunkeltaler Forest, which is tied to the Alphen Signal Observatorium and accessed through progression in the Hydroplant.
Cosmic Companions also introduces distillation and chemistry benches. Players can turn anomalous materials into distillations, then combine them into throwable flasks, tinctures and weapon coatings. New craftable gear includes upgraded wristwatches, several melee weapons, helmets, deployables and the M.O.P. 9000 for cleaning up messes around a base.
Abiotic Factor's Steam page describes the game as a 1-6 player survival crafting experience set inside a secret underground research facility after a containment breach. That setup makes this update more than a cosmetics drop. Pets, chemistry, new traversal tools and an extra portal world all feed directly into exploration, base building and co-op problem solving.
The full patch notes are long, with balance changes, UI improvements, performance work, localization fixes, sound updates and bug fixes alongside the new content. For anyone already playing Abiotic Factor through PS Plus Extra or another platform, Cosmic Companions is a substantial reason to revisit the facility before the next subscription lineup grabs attention.
