SpeedRunners 2: King of Speed launches September 3, 2026, giving tinyBuild's competitive platformer sequel a fixed date after months of wishlisting and demo-led build-up.
The date was confirmed in an official Xbox release date trailer, with the official SpeedRunners site also listing September 3 and linking to Steam, Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch pages. Steam lists Fair Play Labs as developer and tinyBuild as publisher.
The original SpeedRunners found its lane by turning platform racing into a party-fighter argument. Four runners sprinted around looping stages, used pickups to shove rivals off-screen and tried to survive as the camera squeezed the match down to whoever could keep momentum under pressure. It was simple to understand, but mean enough to support serious local rivalries and online play.
King of Speed keeps that basic shape, then expands the match size. The Steam page says the sequel supports up to eight players per lobby online, while the Xbox and PlayStation store pages describe local or online races. The larger count is the most important change to watch. SpeedRunners works because the screen, the track and the other players are all part of the same threat. Doubling the potential lobby size should make races louder and messier, but it also puts more pressure on the netcode and readability.
The official store descriptions point to improved netcode, high-definition graphics and a new retrofuturistic superhero look inspired by 1960s utopian style. The old weapons-and-movement rhythm is still recognizable: missiles, traps, freezing rays, wall jumps, booster pads, levers, grappling points and a golden grappling hook all feed into the same chase for first place.
That matters more than a standard sequel feature list because SpeedRunners has always lived in a narrow design space. If the movement is too loose, the racing collapses. If the weapons dominate too much, it becomes noisy party-game clutter. If the screen pressure is too forgiving, the whole off-screen elimination hook loses its bite. King of Speed is selling itself on keeping that feel intact while making the game bigger, cleaner and easier to run online.
The sequel is also arriving into a stronger environment for small competitive games than the original had at launch. Cross-platform storefront visibility, Steam demos and regular digital showcases give games like this more ways to find a player base before release. The risk is the same one faced by every competitive indie sequel: it needs enough returning fans to trust the feel, enough new players to fill lobbies and enough polish that early matches do not become a churn problem.
The confirmed platform picture is broad but not equally detailed everywhere. The official site says SpeedRunners 2 is coming to PC and consoles in 2026, with store links for Steam, Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch. Steam lists the PC date as September 3, 2026, and the official site presents that as the overall release date.
A playable Steam demo is available now. The full game is due September 3, 2026.
